In an effort to provide more transparency, the ACCME announced that in 2009, ACCME will be posting more information on accredited providers of CME on their website including the following:
· Provider’s current accreditation status;
· Number of activities reported in the last year;
· Number of contact hours reported in the last year;
· Number of physician participants reported in the last year;
· Number of non-physician participants reported in the last year;
· Accepts commercial support (Y/N);
· Accepts advertising and exhibit revenue (Y/N);
· Reported participating in joint sponsorship (Y/N);
· Produces Courses (Y/N);
· Produces Performance Improvement CME (Y/N);
· Produces Internet Live or Enduring Materials CME (Y/N);
· Produces Other Enduring Materials (Y/N);
· Produces Internet Searching and Learning Activities (Y/N); and
· Produces other types of activities (Y/N).
These efforts provide a greater understanding of the way CME works. Unfortunately, performance improvement CME may be penalized from this reporting system, as the reports will focus on # of CME hours and physician participants.
