Alliance for CME Becomes the Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions

In an effort to increase its membership from physician educators to educators for all health professionals the Alliance for CME adopted a new name for the organization: the Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions.

As noted by Medical Meetings, “the announcement came after a tallying of votes taken on the matter by Alliance members.”  George Mejicano, MD Alliance President noted that the named passed with an “overwhelming majority.”

A change in bylaws was also approved, which will allow “public” members to be appointed to the Board of Directors.  The alliance is now able to include individuals with unique skills, representing other health professions, to help ensure that Alliance leadership consider the perspectives of the larger healthcare team, thus putting into practice the collaborative approach to learning and change we value.

Mejicano noted that, “Alliance members’ active participation in the voting process represents your endorsement of our new strategic mission to accelerating excellence in healthcare performance for all health professions through professional development, advocacy and collaboration.”  Additionally, he recognized that the vote “has enabled the Alliance to move forward and address critical issues impacting the field of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Continuing Education (CE) for all health professions.”

The Alliance is now actively engaged in a brand marketing program, focusing on its new name and reflecting important program initiatives that will be launched at the January 2012, 37th Alliance, Annual Conference in Orlando.
