Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions Names Robin King Executive Director

The Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions (ACEHP), formerly the Alliance for CME, named Robin R. King, CAE, as its new Executive Director.  According to their press release, Mr. King will assume responsibility for leading the Alliance efforts, implementing its vision to meet the continuing education needs for all health professions. 

The Alliance is a community dedicated to accelerating excellence in healthcare performance through education, advocacy and collaboration.  The Alliance is an international membership organization of more than 2,200 professionals devoted to designing and implementing continuing education and professional development opportunities for educators involved in continuing education for all health profession. The Alliance strategic mission is a comprehensive initiative to transform the education of all health profession educators through advocacy, patient-centered curriculums, professional development opportunities, and collaboration.   

Mr. King will oversee the operational and financial aspects of the Alliance, including development of membership products and services, research-based education, organizational communications and advocacy, and liaison with healthcare organizations and key stakeholders in alignment with directives from the Alliance Board of Directors.

Mr. King, a veteran public policy advocate, has more than 20 years experience as a senior level executive directing complex national corporate and governmental organizations encompassing public issue communications, public-private partnerships, government relations, and brand strategy. 

Throughout his career, Mr. King has developed continuing education programs, led strategic policy initiatives for national associations, and forged alliances with key organizational stakeholders and policy decision makers. 

Most recently, he was Founder and Principal of Public Policy Communications, an independent consultancy that advised not-for-profit organizations on healthcare policy strategy and planning, including developing membership and education programs. Previously, Mr. King served with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as Director of External Affairs at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).  

Through collaboration with healthcare providers, partners and diverse medical groups, he guided outreach strategies for Part D enrollment, disease prevention, and electronic prescriptions that promote vital healthcare improvement for upcoming generations of Americans.  He also led the development of the Healthcare Quality Roadmap, tying clinical measurements and payments to patient outcomes and served as staff director for the Advisory Panel on Medicare Education, a national thought leader advisory group on improving Medicare beneficiary education. 

Prior to his position with HHS, Mr. King served as Vice President of Communications and Government Relations for The Aluminum Association, overseeing the organization’s national education and advocacy programs and representing the industry to the U.S. Department of Commerce as an ITAC Trade Advisor.  He was the Director of Communications for NASDAQ, then based in Washington, D.C., responsible for membership development, conference/event sponsorship, and accredited executive educational programs with leading business schools.  He also served as Director of the NASDAQ Educational Foundation, a $23 million grant sponsor to advance financial literacy through business and economic education.
