Third Medical Device & Healthcare Technology Compliance Institute

The American Bar Association is hosting the Third Medical Device & Healthcare Technology Compliance Institute October 13, 2016, through October 14, 2016 at Jones Day in Washington, D.C. The program boasts of an “’all-star’ faculty of private practice lawyers, general counsel, compliance and regulatory affairs professionals and key regulators,” who will all be there to discuss the latest topics and issues affecting the medical device and healthcare technology industry.

Day One

Day One’s theme is “State of the Nation,” which opens up with opening remarks by Yogesh Bahl on how to deliver executive leadership in a compliance-driven industry. The morning continues, with two opportunities for ethics credit: a panel on the Yates Memorandum, with an emphasis on ethical considerations, including scope of representation, client identification, and duties; and a compliance officer roundtable, with a similar focus on ethical considerations.

The afternoon of day one will allow attendees the opportunity to hear several panels: one on Anti-Kickback Risk Management and Fair Market Value and the other on Medical Technology Executive Prosecutions. The day ends with a reception, sponsored by Collora, at Jones Day.

Day Two

Day Two’s theme is “New Frontier,” and starts off with opening remarks on cybersecurity considerations for the medical device industry. The morning continues with panels focused on Truthful Speech and “Off-Label” Marketing and Reimbursement and Marketing Pitfalls and Dangers.

Afternoon panels on day two include discussions of HIPAA and privacy concerns for medical device companies, and discussion of approaches and strategies when counseling executives and board members on medical device regulatory risks.
