Julie White Receives 2019 Distinguished Service Award from SACME

Julie White, MS, CHCP, received the 2019 Distinguished Service award from the Society of Academic Continuing Medical Education (SACME). White is the director of the Barry M. Manuel Continuing Medical Education (CME)/Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) Office at the Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM).

White has served in her role as the director of the BUSM CME office since 1995, during which time the office has grown from five to seventeen full-time staff members and from an annual revenue growth of $1.8 million to over $6 million. Her team annually produces thirty-five national and regional conferences, accredits more than 200 meetings and 100 grand rounds series, develops internet-based CME/CNE programs, and works with Boston Medical Center clinicians on Maintenance of Certification (MOC) and quality improvement projects.

Her CME team is also nationally known for their Safer/Competent Opioid Prescribing Education (SCOPE of Pain) program, providing education to more than 140,000 clinicians for more than six years.

According to Daniel Alford, MD, BUSM’s associate dean for CME, White possesses a deep understanding and appreciation for past lessons learned and an ability to think out of the box about educational innovations. “She continually teaches me invaluable lessons about adult learning and curriculum development and is always focused on the learner. She motivates those around her to grow professionally and to achieve great things.”
