In its upcoming fall Medical Education Exchange (MEDX) Primary Care 2019 Conferences, Rockpointe addresses the emerging threat of teen vaping while pressing the fight against the nation’s ongoing opioid epidemic and helping clinicians treat type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Registration is now open for the 2019MEDX conferences on October 26 in Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; November 16 in Atlanta, GA; and December 7 in Chicago, IL. In close collaboration with local universities, the continuing medical education (CME) conference series is designed to inform the community-based primary care team – including physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants – about the latest developments related to a wide range of topics. Each conference features five sessions offering up to 8 hours of CME, ANCC, AAPA, AAFP, and MIPS credits, and is eligible for American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) points. This year, Rockpointe has added a keynote session on “Vaping and Teens: Strategies to Help Stem the Tide,” as a response to the surging numbers of young people who have fallen ill after using e-cigarettes or similar devices. “We at Rockpointe are committed to helping solve the public-health crisis of youth vaping,” said Thomas Sullivan, Rockpointe President. “This is a serious issue, and by offering accredited education sessions at our MEDX Conferences on youth vaping, we are hopeful of enlisting and equipping healthcare providers to better fight this difficult and complex issue.” The session will inform clinicians about the extent of e-cigarette use among pre-teens and adolescents and will familiarize them with adverse events associated with the use of the devices. Participants will be better prepared to initiate conversations with young people about e-cigarettes and provide evidence-based education and counseling.
In its continuing effort against the opioid epidemic and to help attendees fulfill their state CME requirements for pain management, Rockpointe offers 3 hours of CME in a two-part session, “Opioid Analgesics: Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS).” The session incorporates the updated FDA Opioid Analgesic REMS Education Blueprint into practical education designed to help clinicians improve quality of care and reduce pain in their patients.
Another session, “Ensuring Optimal Integration of the GLP-1 Receptor Agonists: Review of the Latest Advances and Current Gaps in Care,” addresses knowledge gaps and misconceptions, such as clinicians’ overestimation of patients’ fear of needles, when considering GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) to treat T2DM. Participants will become more comfortable prescribing and educating patients about GLP-1 RAs and will be equipped with strategies to overcome barriers to their use.
Presented by top clinical experts, other 2019 MEDX Conference sessions focus on the treatment of migraines and X-linked hypophosphatemia. Previous participants have lauded the relevance of the topics – “Thrilled that MACRA was discussed.
