Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) has become a major cause of upper gastrointestinal morbidity with significant impacts on patient quality of life and an increasing incidence, currently about 1-2 cases per 2,000 people. Consensus guideline recommendations with specific diagnostic criteria are available, but practice pattern studies of US-practicing gastroenterologists have identified a lack of familiarity with EoE management guidelines and gaps in diagnostic, treatment, and monitoring aspects of patient care, as well as a lack of shared decision-making between gastroenterologists and their patients. To fill these gaps, Rockpointe and the Potomac Center for Medical Education offer a series of free accredited Continuing Medical Education (CME), Maintenance of Certification (MOC) and MIPS program in a pair of live webinars and as an on-demand webcourse until April 13, 2023.
No medications are currently FDA-approved for treating EoE, but guideline recommendations include the use of proton pump inhibitors and glucocorticosteroids. In the meantime, multiple targeted therapies (i.e., anti-interleukins, S1P modulators) are in late-stage clinical development and are likely to impact the EoE therapeutic landscape in the near future. Don’t Get Stuck In The Middle: Evidence-based Management of Eosinophilic Esophagitis is an hour-long activity geared toward gastroenterologists and other clinicians involved in the management of patients with EoE. Expert-led discussions will focus on current guideline recommendations for diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients with EoE, clinical evidence of emerging EoE therapies, and strategies for implementing shared decision-making in EoE management.
At the program’s conclusion, participants should be able to:
- Use recommended criteria when making the diagnosis of eosinophilic esophagitis.
- Treat and monitor patients with EoE based on current guidelines and evidence.
- Implement shared decision-making to reach management decisions that meet the clinical and personal needs of patients with EoE.
- Assess the safety and efficacy of emerging therapies for EoE.
