It is always nice to see someone sticking up for themselves. Last week Dr. Goodwin was kicked off of public radio because of a letter from Senator Grassley, This week Dr. Goodwin responded in a letter to the American Psychiatric Association Membership and a rebuttal that was printed in full on the Carlat Psychiatry Blog.
I applaud Dr. Goodwin for setting the record straight and for standing up against the lies that have been stated about his program, which for the most part have been propagated by the scientologists.
My favorite rebuttal points:
From April ‘05 through January ’08 he wasn’t even the host of the program
Co-producer of the program wrote the times to say they were fully aware of his work with pharmaceutical companies
The producer of the program had full control of the content, speakers and questions asked (Dr. Goodwin just came into host the program) including the program on Prozac Nation Revisited.
From an hour long interview with Gardner Harris (NY Times), none of what he shared was used (typical).
I also applaud Dr. Carlat for printing the rebuttal of his condemnation of Dr. Goodwin in full.
