Minnesota was once well known for its home town company, Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing (3M), which grew into one of the largest manufacturing companies in the world.  Those days are well behind us.

Today, Minnesota is known more for its anti-industry/anti manufacturing stances, and this week, they also look like they are now anti-mining, in this case, it is anti-data mining.

One committee in the Minnesota State House has passed HF 491, a Bill to restrict selling of prescription data information.

The Bill passed by a vote of 11 to 7 in the Minnesota House Healthcare Policy Committee.  According to the state website, it now heads to the House Commerce and Labor Committee.

A similar measure, SB 1044, was introduced in the State Senate earlier this month and is being sponsored by Sen. John Doll, DFL-Burnsville.

There are many more miles of tunnels before this Bill reaches the surface, but it is something to keep our eyes on.
