0 433

According to NLARX “gift” ban proposals in Minnesota (Withdrawn) and Iowa passed the senate but (Striped out of the bill in the House Committee).

A “Gift” Ban bill in Vermont however passed the State Senate (February 25, 2009) and is expected to be voted on by the end of April by the State House.  This was expected in that all 30 of the state senators were sponsors of the bill.  Right now the bill is in the committee on health care in the state of Vermont.  The Vermont state legislature has been tied up for the last couple of months focused on passage of a same sex marriage law.

All the gift ban bills have basically the same language banning all payments and meals to physicians for marketing and consulting and reporting of payments for research and continuing education.

With the exception of Vermont, all these “Gift” bans have gone down in flames,  if you have friends Vermont, they may want to contact their state house member to protest this crazy bill.
