COVID Vaccine Survey of over 600 Health Care Providers: Shows 62% of Health Care Provider Don’t Know How to Obtain Vaccines

Rockpointe, a continuing education company in Columbia, MD, collaborated with multiple state medical societies to develop and distribute an online survey to healthcare providers to gain insights into their knowledge, perceptions, and experiences with COVID-19 vaccines as the vaccination efforts continue globally. Survey distribution commenced on January 23 and as of February 2, of 655 healthcare provider responses from 30 states had been received. Responses were generally evenly distributed between primary care providers and specialists. While responses continue to be received, below are several notable findings from the preliminary analysis:

• 95% of respondents have or plan to get vaccinated; 32% are requiring office staff to get vaccinated,

• Approximately 20% report encountered delayed acceptance or refusal of COVID-19 vaccinations from patients or staff,

• Most respondents considered themselves familiar with clinical data supporting the use of COVID-19 mRNA vaccines, but most were not familiar with similar data for the COVID-19 adenoviral vector vaccines; similarly, confidence in viral protection provided by the adenoviral vector vaccines was also much lower than that of the mRNA vaccines,

• Approximately 75% of respondents considered themselves only somewhat or not familiar with recommendations for the COVID-19 monoclonal antibody therapies currently in use,

• 62% of respondents did not know who to contact to obtain available COVID-19 mRNA vaccines.

These preliminary results indicate the need for continuing efforts to provide COVID-19 vaccine training and information to healthcare providers to help them provide the most accurate information in their discussions with patients regarding COVID-19 vaccines.
