The CME Coalition (www.cmecoalition.org) has recently issued an updated version of its compliance guide, Independent Medical Education (IME) Compliance Guide, for the use of CME providers and commercial supporters. Additionally, the IME compliance guide contains FAQS for non-accredited activities.
The CME Coalition has produced the following compliance guide and FAQs in response to numerous questions it has received regarding: (1) the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education, which have been adopted by several accrediting bodies; and (2) best practices for education providers and the industry to consider for non-accredited educational activities.
Topics include: entities and corporate structures, grant review process, faculty, author and speaker selection, letters of agreement, materials distribution and much more.
The CME Coalition will hold an informational webinar on the guide — open to the public — on June 29, 2022, from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. EST. Additional details for the virtual webinar, as well as registration information, will be sent to anyone who RSVPs here.
The guide is a valuable resource. Importantly, although the CME Coalition developed these FAQs in cooperation with their legal counsel, the document should not be constituted as binding legal advice from the CME Coalition, as the individual facts of any situation are likely to be unique.
To request a copy of the guide, and they will answer questions during the upcoming webinar.
